Our background
A Hong Kong icon, Cathay Pacific has been a strong, award-winning, global brand for more than 70 years. Our airline never stop, and our teams keep our operations and our passengers ‘travelling well’ 24/7, 365 days of the year. To continue to strengthen our brand we have embarked upon the most exciting business transformation in our history. We are always looking for talented people and there has never been a more exciting time to join!
1946 – The Cathay story begins
At the end of the Second World War, Roy Farrell and Sydney de Kantzow – two ex-Air Force pilots known for flying ‘The Hump’ over the Himalayas – spot an opportunity to fly much-needed goods from Australia into China. They buy a Douglas DC-3 plane, nicknamed ‘Betsy’, and Cathay Pacific is officially born: an airline fuelled by its founders’ passion for flying, progressive thinking and drive to connect the world and its people.
In fact, our very name originates from Roy Farrell’s sense of ambition – that the new airline would one day cross the vast Pacific Ocean from China. We officially achieve this milestone less than 30 years later.
What we stand for
We are the people behind Cathay Pacific. We are proud of our Hong Kong heritage but equally proud of the global, diverse workforce that makes us who we are. We are relentlessly driven to create lifetime customer loyalty, value for our shareholders and satisfaction and enrichment for our employees. We are a complex global business, but we are also a family.
And whether we are in the cockpit or behind a desk, moving cargo, checking our passengers in or ensuring they are safe and comfortable while in the air, we are all one team, focused on delivering one world-class airline operation.
Creating the best place to work
