A Hong Kong icon, Cathay Pacific has been a strong, award-winning, global brand for more than 70 years. Our airline never stop, and our teams keep our operations and our passengers ‘travelling well’ 24/7, 365 days of the year. To continue to strengthen our brand we have embarked upon the most exciting business transformation in our history. We are always looking for talented people and there has never been a more exciting time to join!
American Roy C Farrell and Australian Sydney H de Kantzow founded Cathay Pacific Airways on 24 September, 1946. Initially based in Shanghai, the two men eventually moved to Hong Kong and established the airline. Legend has it that Farrell and a group of foreign correspondents thought up the airline’s unique name in the bar at the Manila Hotel!
The new company began to operate passenger flights to Manila, Bangkok, Singapore and Shanghai. Expansion was fast and, in 1948, Butterfield & Swire (today known as the Swire Group) took a 45% share in the company. Under the leadership of John Kidston Swire, Butterfield & Swire became wholly responsible for the management of the airline.
In 2014 Cathay launched a refreshed brand, including new livery on our aircraft and an emboldened and expanded brand promise, Life Well Travelled. In November 2016, Dragonair, our sister airline and regional carrier was renamed Cathay Dragon in a move designed to help further connect and align the brands, and leverage the strong brand awareness of our two different carriers in different markets Ultimately both brands are working towards delivering the same brand promise.
The Cathay Pacific Group, including Cathay Dragon, operates more than 150 aircraft, flying to over 170 destinations worldwide. We are committed to growing our operation to help strengthen Hong Kong’s role as one of the premier international aviation hubs.
Cathay Pacific City in Hong Kong is one of the largest corporate head office facilities in Asia and is designed for optimal convenience, comfort and collaboration. In addition to office towers housing over 30 departments and 3,000 employees, the complex features a 23-storey hotel, a flight training centre, an onsite medical, physiotherapy and dental practice, extensive leisure and recreation facilities centre (complete with swimming pool, tennis, squash and basketball courts), retail stores and a food court. It’s a highly sociable environment where you can catch up with your colleagues over coffee one day, jam with them in our music studio the next, and grow your own vegetables on our roof garden!
